What to Wear: the Summer Suit
With warmer months ahead, I’m always trying to find ways to look and feel sharp for meetings that don’t involve a full suit. This is the second season I’ve had my eye on a vest blazer and finally decided to give it a try (started with a sleeveless trench in Shanghai here). I love how it makes me feel serious but feels completely modern. Combining navy and white has a softer feeling than my usual go-to of black and white – and the simple lines of the items under the vest ensure it won’t be too fashion-forward for my work environment.
About this vest: I love white but I tend to not spend much on it as I know, no matter how careful I am, it’ll have a much sorter wear-life than other colors. In addition, the vest blazer is a more trendy item that I didn’t think needed to be invested in. This version strikes the perfect balance I was looking for.
A note on open-toed shoes: in California, open-toed shoes are generally accepted for more casual offices. These heels work for me for my work environment, however I wouldn’t wear them for a more conservative meeting (say in the finance industry). I would wear them to a meeting in Silicon Valley. : ) How do you approach open-toe shoes in your workplace?
