Traveling for Work: Part 2 – Packing
As I mentioned here, I’m heading to Asia – Beijing, Hong Kong and Singapore – for work next week. Big trips like this take some extra planning, but the basic concepts are the same that I use traveling locally. I’ve gotten my routine down after many less-than-ideal trips! A few things that work for me:
Great luggage makes life better – this Briggs and Riley bag = amazing. When I first got a job where I’d be traveling a lot, my family gave me this Briggs and Riley suitcase. It works as a carry on (almost all the time) and has a great compartment to keep my tailored pieces wrinkle-free. I received confirmation it must be the perfect bag when my dear friend who, also shares my profession, said it was the same one she got when she started traveling a lot.
Pack your clothes inside clear plastic dry cleaner bags. I know there are fancy products sold at places like Eddie Bauer for this purpose, but these have done me well – protects from internal mishaps like toiletries bag issues and also from external issues, like TSA handling and luggage being unloaded from the plane in rain (this happened to a friend of mine and she spent the evening drying clothing with a hairdryer).
And be sure to pack some comfortable pajamas – they are the best thing after a long day on the road! I like these from J Crew.
