Traveling for Work: New York in the Winter
I’m on my first work trip to New York City for my new job. It’s a totally thrilling experience – new people, new places, intellectual stimulation, beautiful sights…I’m loving it. (Follow along on Instagram for more from the trip.)
I’ve traveled many places for work, including NYC, but never at this time of year. In planning my outfits for the trip, I needed to take into account that it would be much colder than I’m used to coming from California and potentially wet. Another factor was that I’d be traveling with my boss, which means I wouldn’t want to hassle with changing from flats to heels for meetings and we’d be going rapidly in and out of the subway. I knew I could easily wear a suit and travel with my trusty Burberry trench, but what shoes to wear?
My super stylish colleague who used to live and work in NYC turned me onto the Stuart Weitzman 5050 boot and the related model (with a slight heel) Halftime Boot. Supremely comfortable because they are made half out of leather and half from stretchy elastic material, I knew that they would be the perfect item to round out my workwear for the trip. The heel provides just the right amount of lift to feel powerful for meetings while still being sturdy enough to trudge in and out of the subways and navigate the busy city streets.
I know these will be a wardrobe workhorse for work and play. As my colleague said, they are iconic for a reason! What are your go-to cold-weather shoes for work?
