Traveling for Work: Making a Hotel Room Better
I’m lucky enough to get to stay in some really really wonderful hotels when I’m on the road for work. But even so, there are times when either the room is dreary or it just feels strange to be away from home. Depending on how long you are away for (consultants, you take the cake with your many-month assignments!), you can get more elaborate with your home-making routine, but these are my top tricks for making a hotel room feel more like home, be it for one night or many more!
1. Bring a Candle
Candles have an incredible calming effect. It never stops amazing me how a space can be transformed when the lights are turned down and a sweet smelling candle is lit. It shifts my entire mood when I’m on the road, even if I’m still working on my computer…at least it’s by candlelight! : )
2. Fantastic pajamas
For years I underestimated the power of nice pajamas. I usually wore an old athletic shirt and whatever pants I had around…eventually, though, I’ve come to realize that pajamas are worth investing in. There’s almost nothing I love more when I’m on the road than coming back to my hotel room and changing into a favorite pair. I’m partial to J Crew’s pajamas, as seen above and here, but I’d like to invest in a pair from Skin this year!
Many hotel rooms have some sort of tea there for you, but I love bringing my favorite tea along. Since Traditional Medicinals EveryDay Detox
tea is what I drink every evening at home, I feel a deeper sense of relaxation when I also drink it on the road. Plus, I often stash a few pouches in my bag to drink on the plane.
What are your favorite tricks for feeling at home while on the road?
