My Power Pose Lately

Paristravel

On the go in Paris at the Hotel Prince De Galles.

Things change. Interests come and go. For years I was consumed by my career and loved it. I poured over magazines and online sites searching for the right thing to wear for such-and-such occasion. I still love my career but I’ve come to a point where I feel confident in my ability to choose properly for each meeting I have from the wardrobe I’ve built. The big transition point for me was realizing that I wasn’t the same person with the same style as I was when I really got going in my career 8 years earlier.

I’ve written before about the changes going on in my life – leaving a 13 1/2 year marriage, moving to San Francisco, etc…it has been an interesting  period, to say the least. These days I find myself spending much more time focused on my non-work wardrobe. What to wear on dates, what to wear to cook dinner, what to wear on a first bike ride with the Guy and his family…how to look cute on a mountain getaway, etc. I’ve discovered and fallen for stores like Revolve and Intermix in addition to my previous staples of JCrew and Nordstrom.

Paris

Hello Paris: the Eiffel Tower; rooftop breakfast at my hotel; visiting bread mecca Poilane Bakery; enjoying endless wonderful French meals.

While I’ve long traveled for work, I took a recent vacation to Paris and Italy  which had me thinking about how to look sharp traveling for fun.

Modena, Italy: GNO with a dearest friend; produce in Modena's central market; classical Northern Italian food at Cavallino Restaurant; Modena's 1,000 year old Duomo.

Italian Riviera, Tellaro: freshest seafood dinner; beautiful colors and giant succulents; water-side in a favorite bikini; Tellaro beach.

I’ve been spending a lot more time in the kitchen, too, cooking and enjoying great meals. I am obsessed with Chrissy Teigen’s book, Cravings. Her Dutch Baby and Frosted Flake French Toast recipes made breakfasts on my recent trip to the Eastern Sierras heavenly and her Cucumber Soup, Thai Basil Chicken and Sausage Meatloaf have been in regular rotation, among other great dishes.

Eastern Sierra vacation: taking in the view with CG; Parker Lake - the reward at the end of the hike; stopping to see the giant sequoia in Yosemite; Dutch Baby breakfast goodness thanks to Chrissy Teigen's book Cravings.

I have the feeling that, with the cooler months of fall returning I’ll find myself looking to sharpen-up my work wardrobe again, but for now, I plan to continue to enjoy the free-flowing feeling of the summer with its long days and care-free weekends.

What have you most enjoyed about summer this year? What do you plan to do for the last few weeks of August? I’d love to hear from you!
