I love mornings. For me it is a magical time when everything feels fresh. Alot about my mornings has shifted since getting back into an office job after being remote for three years. Below is a look at how I’m starting my workdays.
5:25 am alarm goes off and I hit snooze to snuggle with CG just a little bit longer.
When the alarm goes off again, I get up, get my workout clothes on, and go to the kitchen for what CG calls my morning water: coffee! Usually, to be honest, it’s a Blue Bottle premixed New Orleans coffee drink. A total treat and an extravagance that helps me get moving.
5:55 am Tracy Anderson. I am hooked on her method. I subscribe to her streaming service and I almost always do the beginner’s work out. The regular one is an hour and the beginner’s is half an hour. I get the same great results in the shorter time.
6:30 am I hop in the shower. I wash my hair about twice a week, so it’s pretty fast on an average day. If you haven’t converted to the infrequent hair washing program, you should seriously consider it. When my hair seems off, I spray some dry shampoo, blow dry on low for 2 min and I’m back to almost good as new. And some days the hair just isn’t perfect, which I am comfortable with.
6:35 am Makeup. My makeup routine has gotten much much shorter – generally, but especially for weekdays. I’ve had lash extensions by Lisa Tran (she is seriously awesome. Call to book: 415-603-8064) since December of ’15…they make everything better and eliminate the need for daily eye makeup. I simply apply Chanel’s CC cream all over then Terry’s bronzer as blush and finally fill in my brows with pencil. Done. 2 min.
6:40 am Getting dressed. My style has shifted to be a bit more androgynous and simple to fit the low-key Silicon Valley environment at Stanford. My uniform for the office is almost entirely JCrew: Minnie pants, a knit shell top with a t-shirt under and my Tod’s flats. Heels and dresses are best saved for travel to see prospects in New York or for special events/important meetings on campus.
6:50 am CG makes me breakfast most mornings, which I love. We chat while he makes me either a green smoothie or an egg sandwich or oatmeal.
7:20 am I walk to the CalTrain, which is just under a mile away. When I’m lucky, CG walks with me, which is awesome. I’m new to using public transportation for commuting and I love it. I check social media or do email for the 20 minute ride to Palo Alto.
8:08 am I walk or take the shuttle from the CalTrain stop to my office …and the workday takes off! What are your mornings like? I’d enjoy hearing your tips for starting the day right.
