A Day in Florence, Italy

View of the Ponte Vecchio along the Arno River.

I’m fresh back from a dreamy vacation in Italy. I spent much of the time in Modena (more here) and in Tropea (more here), but for my last day I took a solo trip to Florence. Just 1 hour by train from Modena, I was able to leave after breakfast and return in time for the evening aperitivo and dinner. Here’s what I chose to do during my visit…my day didn’t include any of the amazing galleries or revered artistic sights, which you should for sure check out if you visit…

The city of Florence as seen from the Bardini Gardens.

Clockwise from top left: cappuccino at famed Gilli Cafe on the Piazza del Repubblica; Ponte Vecchio and the Arno River; beautiful window display for a chocolate shop and famed paper store Il Papiro

Lunch at Trattoria Sostanza. Rustic, incredible fare. Clockwise from top: the kitchen staff of two; butter chicken and white beans with olive oil; the most magical artichoke omelette imaginable.
